The Missing Link: Aligning Your Head, Heart and Gut
Let me ask you something…
Have you ever known exactly what to do…
and then just not done it?
You know you should say no… but you say yes.
You know something doesn’t feel right… but you carry on anyway.
You’ve got the idea, the vision, the excitement… and then nothing happens.
Sound familiar?
Because this is exactly where Multiple Brain Integration Techniques (MBIT) comes in – this is the piece I wish I’d had earlier in my journey.
My journey into mBIT (multiple brain integration techniques)
So for those of you who don’t know me…
I’m Sarah, founder of Unlocking Possibilities, NLP trainer, mBITtrainer, and someone who has been deep in the personal development world for over 25 years.
I started with NLP back in 2001, alongside psychotherapy, hypnotherapy and mindfulness.
In 2018 I trained as an NLP trainer… and that’s when I first heard about mBIT.
My trainer introduced it to me, and I remember thinking:
“Oh… I need that in my toolkit.”
mBIT brings together everything I already loved:
- Psychology
- Neuroscience
- NLP
- Behavioural modelling
- Positive psychology
But it goes deeper…
It’s not just mindset.
It’s integration.
The real problem isn’t lack of motivation
Let’s go back to that question:
Why do we know what to do… but still don’t do it?
I lived this myself. When I was leaving teaching, I had:
- A vision
- A passion
- A desire to help more people
- A belief that I could do it
And yet…
I hesitated.
I doubted.
I stayed in my comfort zone.
I literally handed my notice in…
took it back…
handed it in again…
That wasn’t because I didn’t know what I wanted.
It was because part of me wanted it… and part of me didn’t.
What’s really going on: Your Three Brains
Here’s the key insight mBIT gives us:
You don’t just have one “brain”.
You have three:
- Head brain – thinking, logic, ideas
- Heart brain – values, emotions, connection
- Gut brain – safety, action, instinct
And when these three aren’t aligned…
👉 You get inner conflict
👉 You get procrastination
👉 You get overthinking
👉 You get feeling stuck
My example (and maybe yours too…)
- My head had the vision
- My heart felt passionate and excited
- My gut felt fear and wanted safety
So what happened?
I stayed stuck in the middle.
That push-pull feeling.
That “I want it… but I don’t” energy.
That’s not a lack of discipline.
That’s misalignment.
What misalignment looks like in real life
You’ll see this everywhere once you understand it:
- Saying yes when you want to say no
- Staying in jobs that don’t fulfil you
- Starting things and not finishing them
- Overthinking decisions
- Acting impulsively… then regretting it
- Feeling anxious, overwhelmed or stuck
And not just in yourself…
👉 In your clients
👉 In your teams
👉 In leadership
👉 In the world right now
We are living in a world of misalignment.
So what is mBIT really about?
This is the question the founders asked:
We know we have multiple intelligences…
But so what?
How do they actually work together?
And what happens when they don’t?
Through research, behavioural modelling, and neuroscience, they discovered:
👉 High performers, leaders, and people who thrive…
have aligned brains
👉 People who feel stuck, overwhelmed or unfulfilled…
have misaligned brains
So mBIT was created as a way to:
✨ Align your head, heart and gut
✨ Integrate your intelligence
✨ Unlock your full potential
The nervous system piece
One of the most fascinating parts of this work… Is the role of the autonomic nervous system.
Because depending on your state, your brains behave differently.
For example:
- In stress (sympathetic):
- Head → scattered thinking
- Gut → impulsive decisions
- Heart → mistrust
- In shutdown (parasympathetic):
- Gut → procrastination
- Heart → disengagement
- Head → lack of clarity
So it’s not just what you think…
It’s the state you’re in when you’re thinking it.
Why this matters more than ever
Here’s what I truly believe…
We’ve moved beyond just mindset work.
Insight and awareness are great but they’re not enough.
Because how many times have you thought:
“I know what I need to do…”
…and still not done it?
That’s because real transformation happens when you:
- Work with the body
- Regulate the nervous system
- Integrate all parts of your intelligence
This is about who you are being
mBIT isn’t just a tool.
It’s a way of being.
It’s about:
- How you show up in your life
- How you make decisions
- How you lead
- How you connect
- How you express your true self
Because when your brains are aligned:
✨ You trust yourself more
✨ You make clearer decisions
✨ You take courageous action
✨ You feel calmer, more confident, more you
And this is where it starts…
With you.
Not more learning.
Not more information.
But integration.
Because you already have the wisdom.
You already have the answers.
mBIT simply helps you access them.
A final thought
One of the most beautiful messages from this work is this:
Think global… act local.
Start with yourself.
Align your own brains.
Create your own sense of clarity, compassion and courage.
And from there…
You don’t just change your life.
You become someone who helps change others’.
